Are you ready for some football? Kimball is!

The 2010 Kimball football season started on Wednesday,

Aug. 16. The team this year has 44 players in grades 9-12 (up from 32 last year). All but one starter from last year's team are returning.

The team has had a busy summer with lifting, conditioning, and many football camps. The players have been working hard during the four-and-a-half-hour practices, and their skill sets have shown improvement over last year.

The Cubs played an intra-squad scrimmage (pictured) on Wednesday, Aug. 25. They played very hard for the crowd that came to see the results of their summer of hard work.

SCSU fall wrestling clinic Oct. 30


Jayson Ness, a four-time NCAA Division I All-American, will be the guest clinician at the 2010 Fall Wrestling Clinic at St. Cloud State University. The clinic is open to all youth wrestlers in grades 1-12, and it will take place in the University's Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse Saturday, Oct. 30. The clinic will begin with registration at 8 a.m.

The cost of the clinic is $45 per person, or you register with your team (10 or more) and receive a rate of $40 per person. The clinic fee includes two sessions of instruction, a motivational talk, clinic T-shirt and lunch. Clinic participants will also have an opportunity to watch that day's St. Cloud State wrestling team's practice session after the clinic is completed.

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?


It's time for the KIMBALL CUBS Youth Football!

Grades 1 and 2

There is a new Touch Football program for students entering grades 1 and 2. Practices are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Aug. 21, 28, Sept. 11, 18, and 25. They will be at the KAHS Football Field and the cost is $15.

Grades 3-6

Grades 3-6 Tackle Football has sign-up and equipment handout at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Kimball Area High School. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the KAHS Football Field. Cost is $30.

Grade 3-6 Football Camp

This Football Camp for grades 3-6 is from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at the KAHS Football Field and cost is $5.

2010 activities meeting Aug. 9


The activities meeting for students and parents in grades 7-12 will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday,

Aug. 9, at the Kimball Area High School. Students who plan to participate in activities for the 2010-2011 school year should attend this meeting. Students will be able to sign up for 2010-2011 school activities and fill out all necessary forms. Parents and students may also purchases activities passes and meet the fall coaches and advisors. There will be a general meeting with an individual sports meeting to follow. Varsity, JV and 9th grade practices for football, cross country and volleyball will start Aug. 16. Information on junior high practices will also be given out at this meeting.

Starz of Tomorrow event


The fourth annual Husky Wood Bat Fall League, which is the only fall wood bat league of its kind in the St. Cloud area, will begin Saturday, Aug. 21. The league will emphasize the fundamentals of the game and it is designed to help players in grades 6-12 hone their skills and get more baseball-playing experience.

The league will offer three separate leagues (Minor League, grades entering 6-7-8th, Mid Major League, grades 9-10, and a Major League, grades 11-12). Each team in the league will play ten games between Aug. 21 and Sept. 23, at selected locations throughout Central Minnesota.

Kimball summer camp basketball


The girls basketball summer camp was held on the week of July 12 for grades 7-11. These girls participated in multiple individual and team competitions throughout the week. Reinforcement of the fundamentals including ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, pivoting and footwork were points of emphasis while adding individual moves and techniques to use for success while playing one on one and team contests. All summer campers took home with them many individual awards, team awards, and awards for hustle and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to all of these young student athletes who participated in summer camp dedicating some hard work while having a lot of fun playing basketball this past week!

Hurrle signs with Ridgewater College


Ridgewater College has signed Kimball's Molly Hurrle to play volleyball for the 2010 season. Hurrle, a 5'8" setter, was a member of the Kimball Area High School varsity team from 2006-2009. She was named to the Central Minnesota Conference all-conference team and was a four-year letterwinner.

"Ridgewater is elated to have Molly join our volleyball team as a student-athlete. She's a very seasoned setter who is quick to the ball and knows how to run an offense. Molly plays outstanding defense and will also be a threat from behind the service line.

Knaus signs with Tulsa team


Ben Knaus has signed with the Tulsa Oklahoma Diamond Jaxx, a team similar to the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League. In his first game, he started at second base for the Jaxx, with the game tied at one in the fifth inning, and runners on second and third. Knaus delieverd a 2 RBI single up the middle, to put the Jaxx on top and knock the Arkansas starter out of the game.

2010 Softball Awards

The 2010 softball season concluded with a third-place Section 5A finish. Now the bats and balls have now been stored away until next year. The end of the season brings awards, and in addition to the letterwinners, there are a number of individual awards granted.

For Kimball, the CMC gave Tesslynn Callander and Megan Garding First Team All-conference, with Megan Libbesmeier and Tiffany Berscheid receiving Second Team All-Conference.

Youth Baseball Camp offered June 13-16


The Starz of Tomorrow Baseball Academy led by St. Cloud State University head baseball coach, Pat Dolan, his coaching staff and numerous players will be holding its annual summer youth baseball camp June 13-16, at the Waite Park Youth Baseball Complex in Waite Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The camp will offer an overnight stay option at the GrandStay Hotel in downtown St. Cloud, or you can commute to the camp each day from home. The camp is open to all youth baseball players ages 5 years old to 14 years ol

CMC meet Track and Field May 18

Congratulations to the boys' and girls' Track and Field teams on an excellent Central MN Conference Meet Tuesday, May 18. The boys' team finished with a strong fourth place overall. The Girls team put together their second straight Conference Championship, setting a couple of new conference records and breaking two school records in the process!

Shawny Kramer took first in the section meet and advances to the state meet in the discus throw. Shawny will be competing in the State Meet held at Hamline University Friday June 11, and Saturday June 12. Great Job Shawny!

The track team had 20 athletes competing at the section 5A track meet held at St. John's University Wednesday, June 2. The girls' team placed fifth, and the boys' team placed 19th. There were new school records and Personal Bests set.

Softball takes third in Section

The Kimball Cubs advanced to the final four of Sub-Section 5A by taking second in the Section 5A West playoffs. The final four were Osakis and Kimball from the West and Barnum and Braham from the East. After a postponment June 1, the playoffs continued Wednesday.

Osakis went against Barnum and the Cubs took on the Braham Bombers in an elimination game in the double elimination tournament.

Kimball softball semifinals

The Kimball softball team continued its tournament run with a thrilling semifinal victory over EV-W which put the Cubs into the Sub-Section 5A West Championship game. There the Cubs faced number one seed Osakis. They handed the Cubs their first loss in the double elimination round of the Sub-Section 5A tournament.

Tuesday's matchup, May 25, pitted the Cubs against the Eagles for the third time this year. The game had a tight tournament atmosphere, where the Cubs pulled out a tense 3-2 win.

Kimball 12U Softball girls are #1 (again)


The Kimball 12U Softball team took home their second annual win in the second annual Dirt Devil Classic, in Ramsey, Minn. The girls played three games Saturday, June 5 (in the rain), and two games Sunday, June 6, for the championship. Ultimately, the girls defeated Long Prairie, 9-8. (More next week.

Cubs baseball playoff review

The Kimball Cubs baseball team began their playoffs last Thursday. They began by playing ACGC in the play-in game. The Cubs played host, being the higher seed in the8 vs 9 game.

Kimball has Gopher State 13U baseball


The Kimball 13U (13-year-old boys) represented Kimball in a Gopher State Baseball League. They played St. Cloud Blue Sox Friday, May 14, in a double-header under the lights in St. Cloud. They won both games with scores of 12-5 and 10-0. In the second game, Kimball's pitchers threw a no-hitter, and the team allowed no runs. Sunday, May 16, Kimball hosted its first 12-and-under fastpitch tournament. The tournament consisted of six teams: Kimball, Litchfield, Cold Spring, St. Michael-Albertville, and two Maple Lake teams.

EV-W-K girls' track takes first at CMC

The Track team competed in the Central Minnesota Conference meet held at Pierz Tuesday, May 18. The girls took first place as a team, and the boys' team placed fourth.

The girls' team had several first-place finishers: Shawney Kramer in the shot put and discus, Molly Hesse in the 400 meter dash, Larissa Anthofer in the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run, Macki Nelson in pole vault, and the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 meter relay teams took first place.
