| KHS Class of 1960 celebrates 50-year reunion |
The Kimball High School Class of 1960 gathered at the Maple Lake VFW July 24 to enjoy a reunion with classmates.
The committee that put the program together called themselves "The Five Chicks and the Rooster," and they provided a very memorable evening of reminiscing, surprises, laughter and silliness. The theme was "Back to the Fifties," with prizes for the best outfits and nostalgic postage stamps. The highlight of the evening was a unique, quirky style show. Each classmate received an unusual or silly "award" designed for that classmate. They also each received a booklet, class picture and a door prize.

| | | Haiti Gardens in Maple Lake |
When in Haiti in March of this year, a Haitian friend said, "Do not forget us," and thus Gardening World Wide, Haiti Gardens continues to support three program leaders in Haiti to motivate growing fruits and vegetables in home gardens to feed their families. Much of this support has been generated through the Annual Benefit to take place this year Sunday, Sept. 12, in the form of the Haiti Gardens Mini-Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Highway 55 and County Road 8 in Maple Lake.
Stop by to purchase fresh produce from local gardens, including home-made horseradish and sauerkraut, baked and canned goods, Haitian Coffee and exquisite vanilla. Saturday, August 28, 2010
| | | August Pedal Pilgrimage from St. Gertrude's |
On a sunny day, Sunday, Aug. 15, with winds more reminiscent of Pentecost than the feast of the Assumption, nine bicyclists made the 20-mile pilgrimage from St. Gertrude's in Forest City, through Watkins and St. Nicholas to the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring. The Pedal Pilgrimage is both a physical and spiritual journey up County Road 2. There are prayer stops along the way in the towns, but the ride culminated at the top of Chapel Hill with an outdoor Mass. Wednesday, August 25, 2010

| | | Kimball ballpark looks to continue improvements |
By Jean Doran Matua, Editor
If you were at the Kimball Days parade Sunday, you may have noticed some young men walking the parade with a big picture of a baseball "stadium," complete with a grandstand and lights.
The image is a dream, not yet a reality, for the Kimball Baseball Association. The KBA has already made a number of improvements to Kimball's Veterans Memorial Field, the field that is part of Willow Creek Park, along Highway 15 on the south end of town. It started with the erection of a new outfield wall in 2003, then new dugouts, backstop, scoreboard, sprinkler system, mound/home plate, and consession stand with restrooms. These improvements have been documented over the years in the Tri-County News. Wednesday, August 18, 2010

| | | Another great Kimball Days |
By Jean Doran Matua, Editor
In case you weren't around to notice, Kimball Days was this past weekend. There were a few minor glitches, as always, but all in all things went swimmingly.
Weather cooperated with the Kimball Days schedule. We just missed the severe storms and steamy days of earlier in the week. We got rain, and there were some soggy fields and surfaces for some of the events, but the actual rainfall was well-timed. Even the shower before the street dance was well before the band took the stage. Wednesday, August 18, 2010
| | | Z-Puppets Rosenschnoz presents |
The Comical MisAdventures of Mr. Punch
This program is presented by Z-Puppets Rosenschnoz from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Kimball Days celebration held north of St. Anne's Church. It's for ages 5 and up, with no limit to the number in attendance.
When baby goes missing, Mr. Punch sets out to the rescue, unleashing mischief and mayhem all the way. Tangling with a crocodile, a policeman and the devil himself, Mr. Punch presents a travesty of manners, in which the children must keep the puppets from misbehaving and the Baby triumphs in the end. The Comical MisAdventures of Mr. Punch is a madcap call-and-response hand puppet romp.
This project was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage fund. Wednesday, August 11, 2010
| | | Old sign returns, with a twist |
The Kimball Motel is long gone, but the landmark sign remained near the corner of Highway 55 and County Road 44. After the Watkins Veterinary Clinic merged with the Kimball clinic, Dr. Carl Larson made the sign his "pet" project. He took a poll, and the majority wanted to keep the "Kimball Motel" sign. It was in rough shape, though, so
Dr. Carl took it down to restore it. He painted the sign himself, adding just one little change, and last week (Aug. 2) it was returned to its old posts. Good job, Carl! Staff photo by Jean Doran Matua. Wednesday, August 11, 2010

| | | A tale of two Mauses |
By Jean Doran Matua, Editor
This year's Kimball Days grand marshals are Andy and Dorothy Maus. After several years of being asked, they finally relented.
"It's about time, I guess," joked Dorothy.
If you belong to St. Anne's Catholic Church in Kimball, you are probably very familiar with the Mauses. Andy has been serving mass since he was a boy. Their son Steve has been a reader since he was a boy.
