Virginia Viking, 91

Virginia L. Viking of South Haven died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at the Annandale Care Center. She was 91.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Friends called one hour prior to services at the church. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.

Virginia Lucille Viking was born June 15, 1917, in Brainerd to Edward John and Mae Lucille (Wilson) Ebinger. She graduated from Brainerd High School and in 1937 graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College. Virginia taught school for 25 years, the last five in South Haven, retiring in 1963. She married Robert Lee Viking Feb. 10, 1943, in Brainerd; he preceded her in death Jan. 27, 2008.

Virginia was a member of United Methodist Women and Zion United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and youth fellowship leader. She volunteered at the Annandale Senior Dining Center and enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and baking.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert, grandson Eric Johnson Viking, and sisters Donna Kapus and Joyce Wels.

She is survived by her son Robert (and Nancy) Viking of Woodbury; nephews Kevin Kapus of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Glenn (and Sherri) Kapus of Castle Rock, Colo.; and sister Muriel Strasburg of Anaheim, Calif.

Memorials are preferred to Zion United Methodist Church or Annandale Care Center. Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
